Hybrid Projects: Image/Text

Fall 2018

Taught By: Jess Irish and Laura Thompson

Section: A

CRN: 7619

Credits: 3

How can writers and image-makers deepen their practices by exchange, collaboration and exploration? Students will come together to view and read compositions and projects presenting text and image together. We will look closely at works and processes that include both single-author and collaborative compositions. We will further work from prompts in-class to generate ideas and material for hybrid projects. This workshop is designed for writers of all genres, as well as image-makers working in print, web and moving media. During the first of three five-week segments, students will try new creative strategies as individuals. The middle weeks encourage collaboration, and in the final segment students will pursue and critique collaborative or individual projects in progress. Examples of weekly categories include: ekphrasis; schemata and mapping; 3D works including soft architecture and environmental art; and moving/interactive digital media.
