"RAISING CAPITAL"- Securing funding is a combination of art and science. For many, it is an emotionally charged, awkward and challenging part of any new venture. A compelling idea does not guarantee success. For this course, students will learn strategies and techniques for financing for-profit and non-profit initiatives; from individual projects and start-ups to raising capital for organizational growth and long term planning. A range of approaches will be explored, from self-financing, family and friends and crowd funding to venture capitalists, angel investors, foundation grants and government. The course will explore a variety of tactical approaches, including the careful cultivation of relationships as critical components of the process for establishing a mutually beneficial funding partnership.
