This course is an introduction to how fashion is engaging with the metaverse and new digital economies. By understanding the core tenets and attributes of Web 3.0, blockchain, smart contract operations, and the programmability of NFTs, students will learn how decentralized systems give fashion brands and designers further control over their work and connection to their audience. An important aspect of this course will look at how this emerging space can create opportunities for further equity in the fashion industry as well as highlight the potential inequities that it may bring. Through the completion of case studies, students will learn how brands can authentically enter the Web 3.0 space in a way that aligns with their brand, and how to structure a marketing plan around it. Teachings and project deliverables in this course will provide students with the necessary knowledge to develop Web 3.0 applications and strategies.
