Taught By: Luciana Scrutchen

Section: A

CRN: 7967

Credits: 3

This course helps students formulate their textile practice and technical acumen utilizing Lectra’s software Kaledo, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Students will experiment with textile fabrication and prototyping, infused with intersections of; cultural identity, ethnographic societal engagement, science and textiles, and responsible sourcing. Fabric development and materiality will be visually communicated through digital textile prints, pattern repeats, wovens, and knits—texture-mapped and rendered on wearable, non-wearable, and installation objects. The students will reflect on their own textile practice and examine how their practice will fit into the larger society. By applying visual communication principles, students will consider and explore how to document and present their analog and digital textile making processes and designs - both online and offline. Upon completion of this course, students will craft an artist statement, produce a capstone book, and create a digital online presence.
