In this course, second and third year MFA Directors will examine approaches to directing for the screen through a combination of observation, analysis, experimentation and practical hands-on workshops. Supplementary readings include essays on directing, technical readings, as well interviews and conceptual frameworks for reference and analysis. The directors will study various approaches to directing for the camera in order to discover and develop personal style and technique. Directors are expected to demonstrate their understanding of screen direction, shot planning, and basic film and television production practices.
