Continuum 1

Fall 2021

Taught By: Crystal Dickinson

Section: A

CRN: 11880

Credits: 4

This class is designed to build confidence in the tools actors have acquired in their first two years by adapting and augmenting those techniques to better fulfill the demands of stage and film production in the professional environment. There will be ongoing instruction in dealing with practical workplace situations not previously encountered in the training. The class work will consist of scene study with and without camera, lectures, viewing film and tape, group exercises and games. Each actor will be expected to perform 2 to 4 scenes at least one of which must be a comedy. Actors will be encouraged to work with a variety of scene partners and will be required to talk about their work and that of others in a relevant and constructive manner. Acting choices that illuminate story will be emphasized. An important goal of the class is to investigate the actor’s role as an instrument for expanding and interpreting the playwright’s ideas and vision, stressing the goal of unity between the actor’s needs and those of the play/production.

Students who wish to enroll in a graduate theater course at The New School for Drama must be accepted into the graduate theater program as a full-time student.
