Writing for Television 2

Spring 2020

Taught By: Courtney Baron

Section: A

CRN: 1938

Credits: 3

The class plan is for the MFA students to write their own one hour drama pilots, from the process of deciding what that pilot will be about, to outlining and writing a draft and then a revised draft. I will guide the students in carefully selecting a world and subject they are prepared to spend the next 5 years exploring. I will teach the structure of a typical network drama show. We will be watching and analyzing several episodes of one hour dramas including one's that I have written. The class will reflect on the manner in which television is changing, hopefully for the better for playwrights. My goal is to prepare the student's for TV in the 21st Century. I would like to leave the class a little less intimidated by the form, and eager to break new ground, claim new territory and telling newstories for a new generation of viewers.

Students who wish to enroll in a graduate theater course at The New School for Drama must be accepted into the graduate theater program as a full-time student.
