This course is designed in response to the actor’s need for access to a kinesthetic imagination with specificity relative to embodiment and expressive intent. In this class you will learn to free the body of excess tension by establishing attention to a mind/body process of undoing, connection to breath support and clear initiation of action. The head/tail connection relative to the limbs will be explored in a Developmental Movement Sequence as a way to awaken the kinesthetic sense and warm-up the physical instrument for creative process. Moment to moment attention embedded with sensory appreciation will guide a process for creating more clarity within the Basic Six Bartieneff Fundamentals as they relate to movement that comes up from and returns to the floor. Engaging with the principles of initiation-sequencing, rotary factor and weight shift will reveal increased choices within each actor’s movement. This process will be integrated into movement studies designed to stimulate a wide range of imagination and corporeal expression in response to verbal prompts, images and text. The practice of kinesthetic listening in various spatial relationships is developed to enliven the mind/ body/ emotions and bring meaning that is known within the mover, as well as the observer. Each participant will learn to consider a range of movement elements in order to enrich their spontaneity and offer sophistication in their choices. Various Improvisational Forms will be presented and worked with as a means to develop skill at responding as a participant within an ensemble. In addition, participants will be introduced to basic principles of Contact partnering that will be engaged within the final study working from images in mythology and contemporary photography around gender.
