A project based making course that investigates the relationship between the individual creative impulse and the development of work adapted from a primary text across the collaborative process of theater making. In it we will explore the adaptation of a primary text through a development process to create a process of making a performance work for the stage noting the distinction between adaptation and inspiration, issues of intellectual property, activating text, issues of time and flow of action, theatricalization of text, and the particular artistic choices specific to the adapter’s work.
