The course will examine the legal structure of the US immigration system and current policy debates. Topics to be addressed will include: categories for admission of immigrants, refugee and asylum law and policies, due process in immigration proceedings, citizenship law (including birthright citizenship, naturalization and dual nationality), detention policies, undocumented migration, legalization proposals and enforcement policies. The course will feature a number of presentations by legal advocates and policy thinkers.
