In this applied-theory seminar, students are enabled to understand the interconnected sustainability challenges facing today’s creative industries. With a focus on environmental issues, this exploratory course prepares students to systemic and critical thinking and produce sustainable fashion in an era of planetary-scale change. Analyzing the key concepts, tools and strategies that drive the actions of designers, leading companies and organizations in the field, the course combines case studies, encounters with guest experts, field trips and hands-on workshops. The latter explore responsible approaches (such as upcycling and design for repair) and regenerative processes (myco-fabrication) through experimentation, observation and documentation. An emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration, idea sharing and learning by doing allows students to reflect and carry on their experiences and tools to be applied in their practices. *Open to Parsons Paris MFA FD-Arts students only.
