This course mixes research and studio time to introduce and explore details and functionalities of garments from a creative and technical perspective. The course will follow 2D and 3D research and development of historical and contemporary fashion references from a range of garment typologies and sectors of the industry. Students will study the connection of fashion and functional/performative garments and accessories and how many technical innovations from them have adapted into contemporary fashion. Students will work both in groups and individually to develop a strong knowledge and understanding of garment functions, design details and systems leading to the creation of new and creative garment functionalities. Open to: All BFA Fashion Design Major students. Other students upon permission of the instructor.Pre-requisite(s): APFD 2123 Introduction to Textiles
