"Maybe more than ever, now that anyone is a photographer, storytelling is deeply linked with images (still or moving). The cultural history and the evolution of photography shows how this medium has sharpened and altered forever our perception of the world. This course will explore the major movement in photography history in such a way that students can gauge the medium's multifold developments. We will focus every week on the historical, social and cultural contexts of specific photographer’s works. These focuses will lead to photo assignments every two weeks (6 total): the students will be asked to extend the photographer’s vision in their own way and according to the current cultural and technological context. No technical knowledge in photography is required. The overall goal of this course is to develop the students’ photographic background culture as well as their own creativity / expertise in shooting, producing, understanding and using photography."
