Chopin's Preludes: Analysis and Performance
College of Performing Arts: Mannes
CRN: 12819
Credits: 2
Chopin’s 24 preludes, Op. 28, have become a cornerstone of the piano repertoire, both as individual pieces and as a complete cycle. This course will explore how analysis may inform the performance of these pieces. This will be done through in-class performances, presentations, and class discussions. We will touch upon analytical aspects (such as form, structure, motivic design, and more), as well as issues of performance practices and traditions. A final in-class recital will conclude the course. Open to piano majors, or others with instructor’s permission.
