Beethoven Symphonies
College of Performing Arts: Mannes
CRN: 15651
Credits: 2
This class offers an in-depth study of the form and tonal structure of the nine symphonies. It is hoped that every movement will be discussed during the semester, and that students will come to understand Beethoven's symphonic style and how it evolved. Weekly readings from the scholarly literature will augment in-class presentations. A modest though carefully written essay is required. Recommended for conductors, composers, theory majors, and all Beethoven lovers. Students should have completed Graduate Analysis or take Graduate Analysis concurrently with this seminar.
