Mahler Symphonies
Fall 2026
Taught By: Christopher Park
Section: A

CRN: 19675

Credits: 2

This course surveys the nine complete symphonies. Emphasis will be placed on form and tonal structure, interrelationships with other works, and connections with Mahler’s life. Reading assignments include general overviews of each symphony and scholarly articles. There will be quizzes on the readings and a draft and final paper of moderate length. Though it may well be impossible to treat all of the movements in detail, it is hoped that the class will provide a sufficient foundation for further, in-depth study for those interested.
