The Contempoarary Orchestration class explores the orchestral techniques of the 20th century through today. Sample topics may include the Concerto, Spectralism, Aleatory, Microtonality and the use of technology. The first few weeks of the course will provide an accelerated review of foundational techniques and orchestral considerations before continuing on to more advanced and contemporary topics. The second half of the semester will center discussions on the most recent and experimental usages of the orchestra today. This course is open to graduate students, and juniors and seniors who have completed the orchestration sequence and instructor permission.
