College of Performing Arts: Mannes
CRN: 14810
Credits: 2
"New Opera Lab" is a mentorship and workshop course in which student composers, playwrights, singers, and collaborative pianists come together to learn about the creation of--and create--new operatic works. This class will focus on fundamentals of collaboration, dramaturgy, and best practice. Taught by members of our faculty and other professionals in the field of opera, the class will meet two hours per week, with concurrent lab hours for student work and mentorship. Please note: Students will have the opportunity to continue their work in the Spring semester with "New Opera Lab 2." Students who wish to enroll in the second semester will see their work culminate in a workshop presentation of five new one-act operas composed by Mannes student composers, each 15-20 minutes in length.
