This class will focus on how the elements of arts management--strategic planning, human resource development, fundraising, finance, marketing and audience engagement--interrelate and coalesce within organizational structure, lifecycle stage, and governance. Management frameworks will be introduced to provide focus for arts organizational leadership and entrepreneurship, contemporary governance issues and approaches will be interrogated, and case studies will be examined to reinforce theories and concepts. Attention will be given to the ever-evolving environment for arts organizations including the ways in which they are addressing issues of diversity, inclusion, and equity and social/civic responsibilities while ensuring the enduring success and sustainability of their missions. This course counts as an elective course for the Graduate Minor in Impact Entrepreneurship (students outside of the MA Arts Management and Entrepreneurship program should request permission via the CoPA Permission form in MyNewSchool). This is a required course for students in the MA - Arts Management and Entrepreneurship program.
