This course engages students in hands-on study of the continually evolving use of new tools for creative work in the performing arts. Anchoring this study is the discussion of works and creative processes of a selection of pioneering artists, both historical and contemporary, across a wide range of disciplines including music, theater, video art, text, and movement. Contextualization of these artists is coupled with playful discovery and hands-on skill training in modern audio/video tools. Students will apply these concepts in a sequence of individual and collaborative projects that expand, extend, and transform their own creative voice, regardless of discipline. By the end of the semester, students find themselves to be part of a trajectory of artistic practice that makes use of current and cutting-edge tools. Technology & Experimentation is one of four Performing Arts Core courses, along with The Whole Human Artist, Improvisation & Collaboration, and Socially Engaged Artistry, required of all undergraduate students at the College of Performing Arts
