Music and Visual Makers Collaboration 1
College of Performing Arts: Coll of Performing Arts
CRN: 19665
Credits: 3
The Music and Visual Makers Collab Series is a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment where music, film, and visual arts students come together to explore, create, and collaborate beyond the boundaries of their primary disciplines. Welcoming students who come from various music and visual arts practices, this course challenges the traditional “work-for-hire” model often associated with composer–filmmaker–visual artist relationships and invites students to reimagine collaboration from the ground up. Together, students will critically analyze existing sonic–visual collaborations—including film, art installations, video games, and other hybrid forms—to better understand how sound and image interact across media. Celebrating equitable creative exchange, this course and series encourages diverse artistic perspectives, collective brainstorming, shared authorship, team-based problem-solving, and realizing sonic-visual projects that are mutually fulfilling and are built on a shared creative vision. Working in teams, students will develop comprehensive production plans modeled on real-world practices––including project proposals, budgets, and timeline management–– and will demonstrate collaborative leadership, compromise, and engage in active communication while working together towards shared artistic projects and goals.
