Advanced Alexander Technique
College of Performing Arts: Coll of Performing Arts
CRN: 16168
Credits: 2
This class is open to actors, singers and instrumentalists who have taken either an Intro to the Alexander Technique, or Movement for Grad Singers. In this course you can expect to deepen your understanding of your habits that interfere with practice and performance, and develop a more refined understanding of the skills necessary to make fundamental change in your USE of SELF. The weekly class meetings provide clear guidance as to building the Central Coordination along with the use of the arms in procedures refined by your faculty’s experience of working with performing artists. These practices will establish a stronger connection to healthy tension and a more accurate tactile sense within your own physical instrument as you contend with practice and performance. Each community of learners- actors and musicians- will have access to a text with specific exercises developed for their art form. Pursuits are then made according to the student learner's own personal issues and challenges. The weekly assignments are motivated by the individual interests and needs. A portion of each class has time for a rotation of individual work with the teacher before the ensemble.
