For musicians who would like to broaden their knowledge of the fields of sound art, sound design and soundscapes, particularly in relation to their chosen instrument or voice. The course will provide an overview of topics such as the history of recorded sound, vanishing or lost sounds and music, synthesis and MIDI, pioneers in creative sound, basic acoustics, mixing, musique concrete and electroacoustic music, and soundwalking. The course will include hands-on, collaborative work in capturing and manipulating sounds, creating new sounds and compositions with one's instrument, voice, and/or materials at hand, encouraging students to think expansively about the world of sound and their place in it.
