This course, Capitalism, Affect, and Subjectivity, is about Marx, Affect Theory, and different notions of Subjectivity that go into Marx's explanations of capitalism. Of course, affect is part of subjectivity, and Lauren Berlant's Cruel Optimism is a Marxist inspired theory of affect and subjectivity. This course examines the notion of performativity as the intersection of the dialectics of time (mathematical time versus the "flow of time") with the division between subjectivity (Bergson's duration) and objectivity (Frege).
