Normativity of Artifacts

Credits: 3

When we say that "technology is not neutral," what exactly are we saying, and is it true? This course will critically examine the normativity of artifacts, and explore how technology shapes—and is shaped by—individual and social values. We'll look at several case studies that argue that specific technologies are inherently biased, and then raise the larger question of whether technology itself has a politics.
