What effects do new technologies have on how we understand ourselves? This course explores the dialectical nature of the relationship between technology and self-understanding, how new technologies provide us with new models for how our minds do, or do not, work. Figures discussed include Descartes, La Mettrie, Hume, Kant, Riskin, Lovelace, Turing, Dreyfus, Haugeland, and Buckner.
