This course is a graduate introduction to interpretive methods in the study of politics. It starts with some key logics and debates around modes of inquiry in the discipline. The bulk of the course focuses on practical strategies and tools for researching politics. Students will read about case selection and comparison; field research; political theory and method; political ethnography; discourse analysis; the use of histories as secondary sources; creativity and methods; interviews; and archives.
