This is an introductory course to develop the theoretical foundation and fundamental skills of effective couples therapy treatment modalities including Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy. Anchored in psychological science on couples, students will discuss couples therapy cases, engage in role-play to gain exposure and familiarity with various interventions, and participate in group discussions regarding common issues that arise in couples work. These common interpartner issues covered in this course include infidelity, parenting, substance use, multicultural and Interracial differences, family dynamics, neurodivergence, sex, and more. *Psychology graduate students may enroll in this course.
