This course will provide the students with a comprehensive exploration of the field of psychological trauma. Students will learn about the reactions to and coping with traumatic experiences, risk and vulnerability factors, leading theoretical models, and psychological interventions. In-depth information will be provided on different types of trauma and their impact on the individuals and communities. Beyond the effects at the individual level, topics will include the social and cultural issues related to trauma, mass violence, and natural disasters. A significant part of the course will be devoted to evidence-based psychological interventions for trauma-related distress. The course will include group discussion, group analysis of relevant issues, individual student presentations, and role play to practice basic clinical skills.This course is open to Clinical psychology Ph.D students. MA psychology students, and non-Clinical NSSR psychology students, may be permitted to register with permission from the instructor, or the Director of Clinical Training.
