The primary objective of this course is to provide foundational knowledge on the origins and development of major ideas, concepts, and methods in the discipline of psychology, and to understand these developments in a sociopolitical context. Students will develop tools to think critically about the history of the discipline of psychology. By the end of the course, students should be able to identify major theoretical and conceptual issues that have influenced the nature, methods, and boundaries of psychology as a whole and the scientific, professional, and cultural status of the field. This course is self-guided, and open to NSSR Psychology Ph.D students.
