This composition based course combines elements of music theory, ear training, and rhythmic analysis to broaden students’ knowledge of the elements of musical style, to introduce modes and symmetrical scales, and to integrate those styles, modes, and scales into their compositional practice as jazz and contemporary musicians. *Undergraduate students at The School of Jazz and Contemporary Music must receive a grade of C- or higher in any course required for the BFA degree for that course to satisfy the requirements for College of Performing Arts majors.
