This 2 semester core required coursework teaches practice techniques and strategies for instantaneous music making. Skill sets addressed may include but are not limited to: Single line sight reading, sight singing, chord symbol sight reading, sight improvisation, aural imitation/recall, and aural harmony creation. Upon completion of this course work, students are expected to apply weekly these techniques in practice, coursework, and performance towards the demonstration of these skills in their sight reading jury. The Jury is P/F, is expected to be taken in the Junior year, and must be passed in order to graduate. This course work connects to and is supported by JCM Fundamentals, Rhythm, Ensembles, and Private Lesson work. This course is for single line instrumentalist concentrations like saxophone, trumpet, trombone, flute, clarinet, and bass.
