John Zorn's Masada
College of Performing Arts: Jazz
CRN: 14117
Credits: 2
New York composer John Zorn wrote 613 tunes between 1993-2013 known as the ‘Masada Songbook’ (divided into 3 books: Masada Book 1, Book 2: The Book of Angels, and Book 3: The Book of Beriah.). The songs present a ‘new radical Jewish music.’ Originally performed by the quartet of Zorn, Dave Douglas, Greg Cohen and Joey Baron, the Masada music has now been performed and recorded by a myriad of ensembles in many styles. Students will explore this treasure of Zorn’s oeuvre through arranging and performance in this elective ensemble. By audition, at the instructor’s discretion
