Roots & Branches Ensemble
College of Performing Arts: Jazz
CRN: 18137
Credits: 2
This is largely a student driven course. Faculty oversight and instruction will be disseminated in observation of each student’s research, preparation, pedagogy, and leadership. Each student will choose a “root” artist from an earlier era, research their chosen artist's life and music, transcribe and arrange the chosen composition of their root artist. Through rehearsal, each student will identify and articulate to the class the unique and significant characteristics of their chosen artist. Secondly, students will compose an original piece of music inspired by their chosen artist, notate it (on notation software), print it out, and rehearse it towards the performance. By audition.
