CRN: 16461

Credits: 2

One of the most iconic, and personal trumpet, flugelhorn, and vocalists American music has ever known, Clark Terry’s style and career fused swing, bebop, studio work, and entertainment. His work in the bands of Count Basie, Duke Elington, the NBC orchestra, and his ascension to jazz royalty as a leader, all while building and maintaining a reputation as a beautiful person, exemplifies his versatility, and supreme musicianship. In this ensemble, students will learn and perform many of Clark’s compositions and arrangements such as Serenade to a Bus Seat, The Snapper, Pea-Eye, One Foot in the Gutter, Samba de Gumz, Just an Old Manuscript, Over the Rainbow, Secret Love, Canadian Sunset, and more. The ensemble will carry Clark’s positive, joyous spirit forward. Clark encouraged and helped so many future musicians in his 92 years on the planet and it is my great pleasure to carry that forward in this course. Students will audition and the final ensemble line-up will be determined by the instructor.
