This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the principles and practices of music publicity in today’s fast-moving and ever-changing media landscape. Examined through a jazz-focused lens, the class explores how to effectively shape and share artistic narratives through press coverage, social media, and digital tools. Students will learn how to create marketing collateral, research and approach media contacts, and develop a strategy for releasing and promoting music. We’ll also examine how to leverage earned media across social media platforms and the role of playlisting and the DSP’s. Practical assignments and real-life case studies will give students hands-on experience.
