The Voice as a Musical Instrument Ensemble
College of Performing Arts: Jazz
CRN: 18337
Credits: 2
In this ensemble, vocalists will develop their artistic voice by using electronic vocal effects in a live performance setting, including looping, reverb, delay, and more. Students will explore how to integrate technology into their performance to expand their sonic palette and bring their musical ideas to life in real time. Participants will perform both original compositions and creative arrangements of existing songs, taking on roles as featured lead singers and supporting other vocalists within the ensemble. Emphasis will be placed on exploring the voice as an instrument and developing the technical and musical fluency needed to navigate electronic effects in a live performance. Students will strengthen their skills in arranging, vocal production, and ensemble communication, and will be responsible for guiding collaborators through their artistic vision. An audition will be held at the beginning of the semester, and the course will culminate in a live performance and studio recording. This course fulfills the Vocal Ensemble requirement for vocalists.
