Iranian Cinema and the Poetry of Rumi will explore a number of key films from the history of Iranian cinema in the light of the poetic tradition of Sufi mysticism with an emphasis on the poetry of Rumi. The course will explore the question of the “poetic” in cinema as well as the way Sufi philosophy has impacted the Iranian cinematic landscape. The final project will be a public theatrical performance about Rumi and Iranian cinema so come to class prepared to put on a play. [Tracks C, M, S]
