This course will involve a shot-by-shot analysis of Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker, as well as a careful reading both of Roadside Picnic, the Russian science fiction novel it is based on, and Geoff Dwyer's Zona, his personal exploration of the Tarkovsky film. The course will also study Tarkovsky's other films and explore the problem of how to adapt literature into a viable cinematic form. [Track S]
