A course exploring the complicated legacy of the “docufiction” film (the blend of documentary representation with fictional simulation), considering whether it is a subset of documentary, a recognizable genre, or a formal mode that covers a diverse range of experiments in cinema. This course involves extensive viewing of films along with discussion of readings, student writing, and the development of a final creative project (movie, text or multimedia) incorporating ideas and techniques drawn from the course.
