Trio of Contemporary Dance Practices
Eugene Lang College Lib Arts: The Arts
CRN: 10787
Credits: 2
This dance practice course offers students an opportunity to study a constellation of contemporary movement practices with three extraordinary dance artists: nia love, luciana achugar, and Ana "Rokafella" Garcia. Each instructor will teach for a six-week block, with one overlapping week with another instructor. Drawing from their particular experience and performance histories, the instructors will present a range of practices including: the Africanist presence - the syncopated and poly-rhythmic body (love); Utopian Body/Anarchic Body - A practice of being in pleasure (achugar); and Hip Hop dance practices (Rokafella). The class explores the term “contemporary” within dance contexts, and considers various understandings of the body, virtuosity, and reasons for dancing. Space is limited and priority is given to dance majors and minors.
