This dance practice course offers students an opportunity to study a constellation of contemporary movement practices with three extraordinary dance artists: luciana achugar, Ana "Rokafella" Garcia, and Darian Parker. Each instructor will teach for a six-week block, including one overlapping week with another instructor. Drawing from their particular experience and performance histories, the instructors will present a range of practices including (respectively) Utopian Body/Anarchic Body: A practice of being in pleasure; Hip Hop dance practices; and West African dance practices. The class explores the term “contemporary” within dance contexts, and considers various understandings of the body, virtuosity, and reasons for dancing. Space is limited and priority is given to dance majors and minors.
