This dance practice course offers students an opportunity to study a constellation of contemporary movement practices with three extraordinary dance artists: j. bouey, Bradley Teal Ellis, and Jennifer Nugent. Each instructor will teach for a six-week block, including one overlapping week with another instructor. Drawing from their particular experience and performance histories, the instructors will present a range of practices including Punking and Waacking Freestyle, Contact Improvisation, and various improvisational and set technical structures that invite dancers to consider how movement might live rather than merely be positioned. The class explores the term “contemporary” within dance contexts, and considers various understandings of the body, virtuosity, and reasons for dancing.
