Trio of Dance Practices

Spring 2020

Taught By: Faculty TBA

Section: A

CRN: 5048

Credits: 2

This dance practice course offers students an opportunity to study a constellation of contemporary movement practices with three extraordinary dance artists: Ana “Rokafella” Garcia, K.J. Holmes, and Darian Parker. Each instructor will teach for a six-week block, with one overlapping week with another instructor. Drawing from their particular experience and performance histories, the instructors will present a range of practices including hip hop, contact improvisation, and West African dance practices. The class explores the term “contemporary” within dance contexts, and considers various understandings of the body, virtuosity, and reasons for dancing. Space is limited and priority is given to dance majors.
