Ballet Practices, Continued
Eugene Lang College Lib Arts: The Arts
CRN: 10791
Credits: 1
Ballet Practices Continued is a studio practice course for dancers with previous experience in ballet to develop strength, functional alignment, expressivity and artistry; and to consider how ballet can be re-imagined as an inclusive, intersectional, contemporary practice for dancers of all identities. Students begin work at the ballet barre to gain strength and flexibility that leads to dancing across the floor. Center work includes adagio, port de bras, the eight body positions, inside and outside pirouettes, waltz, petit allegro including glissade, assemblé and sissonne, and grand allegro including grand jeté and saut de chat. As we work on these historical movements, dancers are encouraged to develop ways to express their own identities, and to encourage each other in that process. Prerequisite: a previous semester of Ballet Practices Continued, or permission Dance Program Director (neil.greenberg@newschool.edu). First year dance students are encouraged to also enroll in Contemporary Dance Practices A. Space is limited and priority is given to dance majors and minors. *Interested students must contact the Dance Program Director (neil.greenberg@newschool.edu) for permission to enroll in the course.
