This course explores the history of Europe and its relations with the larger world from the mid 19th to the late 20th century. In it, students investigate the cultural, diplomatic, economic, political, and social developments that shaped the lives of the Europeans of the time. Significant attention will be given to the development of new political ideologies and systems, democratic, authoritarian, and totalitarian in nature, and international politics in the attempt to define the modern and post-modern development in the continent. Students will be trained to grasp the arguments of standard and revisionist historiography, write critical work of their own and also engage in interactive groups exercises of historical identification.
