Liberation movements use “popular education” or “people’s education” to develop political literacy and foster solidarity. The knowledge developed through collaborative creative practices and sustained critical dialogue enable groups to name the forces underlying their experiences of suffering and oppression. This shared analysis guides collective action. In this course, we will study the history, philosophy, and creative power of popular education by working through the steps outlined in one of the most well-known and widely used approaches, Naming the Moment: Political Analysis for Action.
