This course provides an in-depth examination of the legal and ethical frameworks that shape journalism. Through real-world cases, current events, and foundational legal principles, students will develop a critical understanding of the legal rights and responsibilities of journalists. Topics include First Amendment protections, defamation, privacy law, shield laws, copyright and fair use, government transparency, and the legal dilemmas that arise in reporting.
