Singer, songwriter, memoirist, novelist, poet, painter, sculptor, Nobel Laureate in Literature, 2016: Bob Dylan contains multitudes. This course will cover all aspects of his career — so far. We will read his early attempts at poetry, his political writings and long lyrics of the early and middle 1960s, his postmodern novel Tarantula (1965/6), interviews, his memoir Chronicles Vol. 1 (2004). We will listen to his songs and work with both the words and music. And we will study his visual art, from early painting to film appearances to recent sculpture.

After the first week of the semester, permission of the instructor will be required in order to register for this course.
