Emily Dickinson is one of the most important and celebrated poets in the history of American literature. In this course, we will read many of her nearly 2,000 poems and her letters and discuss her passion for ideas and achievements in literary innovation. We will also consider how her poetry has been transmitted, preserved and adapted by archivists, historians, critics and other poets. Students will leave the course with a greater knowledge of Dickinson’s oeuvre and how it continues to influence American literature today. This course fulfills the Single-Author requirement in Literary Studies. This course fulfills the Poetry requirement in the Literature concentration.

This course fulfills the Single Author/Text requirement in Literary Studies.
After the first week of the semester, permission of the instructor will be required in order to register for this course.
