This course introduces students to the history and practice of the art of DJing with a master DJ. The first half of the semester focuses on the fundamentals of mixing, scratching, and beat juggling using turntables and vinyl, and the second half of the semester introduces Serato and other tools for digital mixing. Students learn about the history and cultural contexts of DJing as they develop a solid technical foundation, an inner beat, and a distinct personality that can be applied to changing technologies. Students must also enroll in the corresponding practice session (LMUS 2026) for this course. Sections A and B are open to Lang students only; Section C is not restricted to Lang.
