This course explores the impact of early rave culture on contemporary music and digital media, combining hands-on workshops and creative labs with lectures, film-screenings, readings, and guest visits by electronic music artists, digital media artists, and rave culture pioneers. Topics of study will include early rave music techniques and production, hybrid DJing, remixing, VJing, and the role of the early internet in the development and dissemination of rave culture via online communities. The class will produce a rave together including djing, live performance, vjing, digital media installation, and the use of the internet for promotion. Each student can pick what area(s) they would like their practice to focus on and contribute to the class rave.
